Dovecot Road is an assisted living development located in Peebles. This project offers 59 affordable tenure flats with 37 being equipped for extra care and the remaining 22 allocated for general needs.
This project is a partnership between Eildon Housing Association, Scottish Borders Council and Aitken Turnbull. The 4-storey development creates a new street facade on Dovecot Road and is intended to replace an existing care home on the south side of Peebles.
The ‘extra care’ housing development is a new concept in the Scottish Borders which provides affordable yet desirable apartments with 24-hour support from an on-site nurse team for the elderly and those with health issues, including Alzheimer’s and accessibility issues.
Each block is accessed from a central ‘winter garden’ with colourful beds and ever-green planting. Internally, the ‘extra care’ apartments are self-contained and have two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and bathroom.
There are also social area which include areas such as the lounge, library, pantry and casual dining which together offer senior living activities and promote an engaging and social community.
