Fonthill is a modern family house located in the popular sailing village of Kippford, overlooking the Rough Firth.
This project comprised the extensive renovation and extension of a 1960’s dwelling situated on an elevated site. The existing dwelling house is a three storey ‘box’ design with a mono pitch roof and had fallen into a state of serious disrepair.
The house has been heavily renovated including major fabric repairs, a cantilevered first floor extension and internal reconfigurations including a sun room with access to an external terrace with outstanding views across the beautiful estuary.
During the design develop phase, various models were used to research options for retaining elements of the existing structure and to demonstrate to the Planners that the proposals would make a positive yet contemporary contribution to the sensitive setting.
The clients were keen to use materials that are easily maintained and all external finishing materials were therefore selected for their low maintenance properties and compatibility for use in a coastal environment.
