Bowmont street is an mixed social tenure development of 39 two and three bedroom town houses and apartments and 8 general needs rental apartments located in the historic centre of Kelso, a town in the Scottish Borders.
Aitken Turnbull were commissioned to design a residential development on the former Henderson site. The overall design features three main residential blocks arranged around a landscaped, well lit, mono-blocked inner courtyard with secure resident’s parking. There is also a pedestrian walkway linking East Bowmont Street and Horsemarket creating a safe route to the towns cobbled main square.
Located within Kelso’s attractive conservation area, historic details were a key part of the design. The new buildings feature arched windows, pitched roofs with lead-topped dormer projections, gable ends and chimneys. Emphasis is also placed on the use of traditional materials including stone, render and slate to complement the setting.
This project was procured as a partnership between a private developer and a registered social landlord.
